There is a particularly acute shortage of graduates working within chip design in the semiconductor sector. The UKESF is working with Aston University and the Institute of Physics on a ‘proof of concept’ for a development programme that would enable physics graduates to further their understanding of semiconductor design, materials and opto-electronics.
This project will assess the appetite for, and practicalities of, providing a formal route for physics graduates to pursue careers in chip design and the wider semiconductor sector.
If you’re a course provider, educator or curriculum developer interested in supporting physics graduates to explore semiconductors, or a physics graduate interested in sharing your experiences, please get in touch at [email protected].
This initiative is part of the UKESF Semiconductor: Skills, Talent and Education Programme. Semiconductor: STEP comprises four connected projects, from schools’ outreach through to post-graduate training, which begin to tackle the skills shortage in the UK’s Semiconductor sector.
