Who we are and what we do

Angstrom process control for the AI era.

Infinitesima builds the measurement technology that lets chipmakers see what they’re building at the atomic scale. Spun out of the University of Bristol, we developed Rapid Probe Microscopy (RPM), a hybrid optical-AFM technique that reaches speeds and precision conventional AFM can’t match, and turned it into Metron3D, a modular platform for fully automated, high-speed in-line metrology.

As chips get smaller and more complex, the industry needs measurement that can keep up. Metron3D is qualified for high-volume DRAM production, and we’re working with imec and ASML to apply it to the next generation of architectures.

What you could be doing during your work placement

As a UKESF scholar at Infinitesima, you’ll work alongside our systems and electronics teams developing the precision instrumentation behind our Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) systems for 3D semiconductor metrology.

Depending on the placement, this could include designing and testing analogue and digital circuitry for high-precision sensing and control, developing embedded firmware for instrument subsystems, supporting FPGA-based signal processing and data acquisition, or helping integrate and characterise electronics within our AFM platforms on the test bench.

You’ll gain hands-on exposure to the full electronics development lifecycle, from schematic capture and PCB design through to lab-based validation and troubleshooting, working within an engineering team where scholars contribute to real projects supporting our metrology tools used by leading semiconductor manufacturers worldwide.
