The UKESF Award for Inspirational Primary Educators celebrates and supports staff who are finding creative ways to bring Electronics into their primary schools.
Here at UKESF, we know how important it is for primary-aged children to see a range of STEM roles – and to have the opportunity to try hands-on activities linked to these.
That’s why we’re proud to announce our new Award for primary educators, to recognise the incredibly important role that school staff play in supporting and encouraging the engineers of tomorrow.
Six inspirational primary educators will receive:
- A £50 personal award
- A £300 grant to support Electronics education in their school
You can nominate yourself, or someone else, for bringing STEM to life in the classroom, or through an extra-curricular activity.
Eligibility
You are eligible for this Award if you:
- Have run any form of Electronics activity in your school over the previous academic year OR
- Have a brilliant idea for an Electronics activity you would like to run over this academic year, using this funding
You may well fulfil both categories (and do tell us if that is you!) but we encourage you to apply if you have an activity which fits either category.
Please note: You must be a current teacher or teaching assistant in a UK state-funded Primary School to apply yourself or be nominated.
Example activities
These are just a few examples of some things you can do, and we’re really excited to hear about what you’ve done or what you have planned, whether it is on this list or not!
- An assembly featuring representatives from your local Electronics industry
- A visit to an Electronics company
- A parent or other visitor coming into school to talk about their role in Electronics
- A hands-on class activity around circuits and sensors that enriches beyond the curriculum requirements
- A micro:bit activity which uses the built in sensors such as the accelerometer, temperature sensor, light sensor, compass or touch sensor
- An Electronics or robotics after-school or lunchtime club
- A class or school STEM day focussed on or including Electronics
- A careers activity which highlights Electronic Engineering or the variety of careers in Electronics or semiconductors
- Participating in an external activity which includes Electronics, such as ‘Mission Zero’ or ‘Road to RIAT’
- A unit of work based around engineering and including Electronics
- Using Electronics with the children for a purpose within school, for example, as an interactive display or as part of the school production
