Who we are and what we do

BAE Systems provide some of the world’s most advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions and employ a skilled workforce of some 83,400 people in over 40 countries. Working with customers and local partners, we develop, engineer, manufacture and support products and systems to deliver military capability, protect national security and people and keep critical information and infrastructure secure.

Submarines is contracted to work on some of the biggest and most ambitious engineering projects in the world. You could join more than 7,000 people across several UK sites, as part of a team that’s proud to have designed and built every submarine currently in service with the UK Royal Navy.

As the prime contractor for the UK Royal Navy’s Astute Class nuclear submarine programme, we’re responsible for developing seven submarines packed full of cutting-edge, state-of-the-art technology. You could contribute to the navy’s largest and most powerful fleet of submarines yet.

What you could be doing during your work placement

You will be part of the Electrical and Electronics function within one of the key teams either Power, Communications, Control & Instrumentation or EMC where you will support the design and build of the systems that are integrated into the Submarine. The tasks will range from production of the designing documentation to support the systems under development to supporting the supply chain activities right through to factory acceptance testing.
