Launch of 2nd SW regional electronics challenge for schools
2nd South West UKESF-Go4SET electronics challenge for schools launched today

Today we saw teams of 12–14-year-olds and their teachers meeting with mentors from their industry sponsors for the second South West regional UKESF-Go4SET electronics challenge.
Eight teams, each of six pupils spent the day at HP Labs Bristol for the launch of the 10-week long project. They spent the day learning about the skills needed for a successful team project, were presented with the project brief and started planning their work programme with their company mentors who will be supporting them during the challenge.
The teams are being sponsored by CSR, Dialog Semiconductor, Imagination Technologies, Intel Corporation UK Ltd, RS Components and the University of Bristol and come from Badminton School (Bristol), Brimsham Green School (Yate), Gordano School (Portishead) and Kingsdown and Ridgeway schools (Swindon).
We were delighted to see as mentors two of our UKESF Scholars from the University of Bristol – Jonathan Pittaway, a CSR sponsored scholar, and Tolulope Akanbi-Onasanya sponsored by Nvidia. Tolulope said, “This is a great chance for me to give something back and inspire as well as project managing a team of young people and future engineers. I never had the opportunity to do an electronics based project at school and didn’t know anyone who did engineering when I was their age. I think this project provides a fantastic opportunity to find out about electronic engineering and what it involves.”
